This mountain bike route in the Hérault has many assets. The diversity of the route is probably what attracts our visitors the most. Indeed, you can ride on quiet mountain trails, pass through technical and more complicated sections, undertake spectacular descents; you won’t have time to get bored!

You will be transported to the heart of a stunning natural landscape; the Hérault gorges weave their way through the majestic nature bringing a touch of freshness. This mountain bike route offers the most athletic riders the opportunity to push their limits and improve their skills in this adventure sport.

The 40 kilometres of this mountain bike circuit in the Hérault ensure a complete and autonomous outing. Indeed, you can hire your bikes and organise your ride as you wish: for a day or half-day. The signposted circuits will allow you to move easily in the heart of the valley and enjoy every moment. However, groups of at least 6 people can be accompanied by a guide on request.

Schedule of the day

At the start of this 40-kilometre route, you will ride along the market gardening plain supplied with water by century-old norias.

Your mountain bike tour will take you at Le Fesquet. The trail becomes technical and aerial above the deep gorges of the Hérault. After several tricky passages under the impressive face of the Sion rock, you will reach a more rolling part, near the hamlet of Agonés. The itinerary then crosses the plain of Cayzargues before starting the long ascent to the highest point of the Séranne: The Roc Blanc. You will discover a superb view of the entire Hérault valley. The view extends from the Cevennes to the Pyrenees, passing by Montpellier, the Pic Saint-Loup, the Mediterranean Sea and even the Mont-Ventoux. After this rest, you will start the long rolling descent back to Ganges.

Remember to carry a backpack with water and a snack if you want to take a break. We also advise you to wear sport clothes and shoes to be comfortable for this day. This bike ride guarantees great sensations and beautiful views. You will be charmed by the sporty and dynamic atmosphere.

From Ganges, take the road toward Saint Martin de Londres – Montpellier. Then, follow Pic Saint Loup – Saint Mathieu de Treviers toward.

What to do around

The Hérault valley and its region has developed its tourism and attracts many visitors each year. Lovers of wide open spaces can enjoy remarkable hikes in the heart of the Caroux massif or further north, in the Larzac gorges you will find itineraries suitable for all levels.

Then, go and visit the typical villages of the Cevennes region. Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert is probably the best known. Classified as one of the most beautiful villages in France, admire the Gellone Abbey, a true jewel of Romanesque art in the Languedoc.

Nearby Montpellier relax at the Lac du Salagou, a special natural site where colours mingle.

Head south to the village of Saint-Chinian, a town in the heart of the garrigues. Walk through the narrow streets and take a break in a shady square.

Continue towards Béziers, a pretty town where the Canal du Midi runs. Choose a water sports activity, a hike, or a visit to the charming city centre.

Do you like the beach? Stop off at Agde, a dynamic seaside resort on the Mediterranean coast. Other towns such as Sète, Palavas-les-Flots or La Grande-Motte welcome you during the summer months for a lively holiday.
